Humanities - Geography & History

At Swindon Academy we recognise the importance of understanding the world around us and believe that both history and geography allow children to develop this understanding.

Our Knowledge rich curriculum is carefully sequenced, so pupils develop their understanding of substantive and disciplinary knowledge in both disciplines. Their knowledge builds gradually across the units and year with ley themes and skills being revisited regularly.

Purposeful interdisciplinary links allow pupils to make meaningful connections and understand the world around them. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and engaging for all pupils regardless of their background. We ensure that the knowledge taught, is taught to be remembered and supports children so that they can think and work like historians and geographers. We ensure our history and geography lessons are ambitious and motivating, delivered through engaging knowledge-rich lessons, and enhanced with trips and visits. Thus, inspiring in pupils a curiosity and fascination about history and geography that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
