Governance
Swindon Academy is part of the United Learning Multi-Academy Trust, whose Trustees hold the ultimate legal responsibility for the governance of each United Learning school.
Further information about the governance of United Learning, including its Trustees, can be found at http://unitedlearning.org.uk/about-us/governance
The Trustees of United Learning delegate certain responsibilities to a Local Governing Body (LGB) for each school. The main purpose of the LGB is to provide support and challenge to the Academy on behalf of United Learning, drawing on local knowledge of the school and the communities it serves.
Information about which responsibilities are retained by Trustees and which are delegated to the LGB are described in the scheme of delegation.

Swindon Academy is part of a United Learning school cluster with Nova Hreod Academy. The cluster has a single LGB which works with the leadership and staff of both schools to promote shared strategic view and encourage the adoption of good practice and common approaches where it makes sense to do so. Each school retains its separate budget and admissions arrangements.
The LGB meets five times a year and acts as a critical friend to the leadership teams at Swindon Academy and Nova Hreod. It is the governors’ job to ask difficult questions, examine attainment and learning outcomes, and offer constructive challenge to help ensure that all pupils receive an excellent education and are able to succeed in life. Governors also support the behaviour for learning policy (taking part in hearings and appeals for exclusions), helping with the recruitment of senior roles, and hearing escalated complaints.
All governors are volunteers and largely drawn from the local community in and around Swindon.
