Achievement at A-Level 2023

Over one-third (35%) of A Level entries achieved grades A*-B and almost three-quarters (74%) of entries achieved grades A*-C this year. The vast majority of students were offered their first choice of higher education.

Notably, Sixth Form student Pratiksha, who achieved two A*s in Biology and Extended Project and two As in Psychology and Chemistry, has become UCSF’s first student to secure a place studying Medicine at the University of Exeter.  Commenting on her success, Pratiksha said:

“I focused really hard on my aim to become a medic and I always looked to improve after each exam I took. I am really pleased to get my place at Exeter.”

Further standout successes at the school include:

  • Ali, who achieved two As in Maths and Arabic, a C in Physics and a Distinction* in Engineering, will be attending University College London to study Civil Engineering.

  • Helia, who achieved an A* in Persian, a B in Maths and two Cs in Physics and Computer Science, will be attending Cardiff University to study Maths and Statistics.

  • Freya, who achieved an A* in Psychology, an A in Biology and a C in Chemistry, will be attending Cardiff University to study Midwifery.

  • Tom, who achieved a B in Business and a Distinction*Distinction* in Sport Science, will be taking up an apprenticeship in Finance at St. James’s Place, Cirencester.

Karen Wright, Principal at United College Sixth Form, said:

“Congratulations to our Year 13s on what is another set of excellent A Level results at UCSF. All our students have shown a real commitment to their studies over the past two years and an enduring determination to reach their goals. It is fantastic to see so many of them securing their first-choice university places and going on to take up a range of high-quality courses, from Medicine to Civil Engineering. Many thanks in particular to our excellent Sixth Form team who continue to go above and beyond to provide our students with the help and guidance they need to take their next steps into further education or the world of work.”

Achievement at GCSE 2023

As testament to students’ hard work and resilience, 72% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths, with just over half achieving the higher grade 5 or above in both subjects. Many of these students will be continuing their studies at the school by taking up their places at United College Sixth Form (UCSF) – based at Swindon Academy – in September.

Some of the school’s standout individual successes today include:

  • Amelia, who achieved six grade 9s and three grade 8s;
  • Alfie, who achieved five grade 9s and three grade 8s;
  • Dylan, who achieved five grade 9s and four grade 9s;
  • Shreya, who achieved three grade 9s, five 5 grade 8s and one grade 7;
  • Saad, who achieved two grade 9s, five grade 8s and one grade 7.

These results follow on from the publication of A Level results last week which saw students at UCSF leading the celebrations. Impressively, 35% of A Level entries achieved grades A*-B and 74% of entries achieved grades A*-C. This has enabled UCSF students to secure places at some of the country’s top Russell Group universities, including the University of Exeter and University College London.

Karen Wright, Principal at Swindon Academy, said:

“Very well done to our GCSE students celebrating today. They have done themselves – and us – so proud with what they have achieved and are highly deserving of their success. It is fantastic that so many of them will be joining UCSF in the new academic year and will be able to benefit from the host of opportunities our Sixth Form has to offer.”
