Grammar Stream Admissions Process

If you are interested in finding out more about the Grammar Stream please follow the steps below:

Step 1

Read all the information pages to give you an understanding of all the opportunities available to find out more about the Grammar Stream. There are a mix of activites involving parents/ carers and pupils.

Step 2

If you would like to attend the Grammar Stream events, fill out the Register Your Interest Form. Once you have provided your details, we will keep in touch with updates. We usually ask you to tell us if you can/ cannot attend each event, so only use an email you frequently access.

Step 3

Current Year 6 pupils applying for a place at Secondary School in Year 7:

As a state school, all our pupils are allocated through the Borough Council. Please complete the Secondary School Application on the Swindon Borough Council website.  This opens on 1 September, and you have until 31st October to apply for a place.  It is useful for you to understand the Admissions policy, because there are various criteria which will determine whether your child is likely to get a place offer, such as whether they are already at our Primary Schools (Alton Close and Beech Avenue), if they have a sibling here, and your home's distance from the school.

Step 4 (2025)

Parents are offered school places on 3rd March by Swindon Borough Council.  Parents must accept the place no later than 17th March.  Once you have accepted your place at Swindon Academy we are presented with the final list from the council. At that point, we contact you to invite your child to sit the Entrance Exam, usually held in May.

Step 5

Parents will receive notification of the Exam results with a few school days of the test.

Step 6

Subject to success in the Entrance Exam, Swindon Academy Transition Team will contact parents to invite them to attend a Grammar Stream Transition Meeting at the end of June.

Step 7

Pupils spend a day at Swindon Academy as part of the transition process.
