The Alton Way

At Alton Close Primary we are proud of our warm-strict ethos, our high behaviour expectations and our academic and personal responsibility expectations.

We have clear boundaries, systems and routines because all pupils and staff deserve to feel safe and be able to learn and play in a calm environment. We value the acquisition of powerful knowledge as a goal in itself, and as an entitlement for all our pupils.

Alongside a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum, pupils are enriched by a broad range of sport, art and creative opportunities. Our teachers have strong subject knowledge and make use of evidence-based research to ensure that they pass on their knowledge to students in the most direct and effective ways, ensuring that it is learnt, remembered, and supports every child to achieve their fullest potential.

Our Mission

Our mission is to broaden the horizons of our pupils by providing a world class education. We believe it is profoundly important we provide our pupils with the opportunities, experience and body of knowledge that level the playing field to reduce economic and social inequality.

Our Vision

Underpinning our mission is a shared vision: Swindon Academy ensures that every pupil can flourish academically and personally in an aspirational and supportive environment.

Our Values

  • I AM KIND
  • I AM RESPONSIBLE
  • I WORK HARD

We are unashamedly aspirational for the pupils we serve. We are highly ambitious and expect all staff and pupils to aim high, reach far and dream big. We expect both staff and pupils to accept personal responsibility for their role in our school family, with no excuses, focusing on what we are in control of and taking responsibility for it.

We promote the importance of gratitude and humility, to be grateful for the opportunities school provides and the people who help us on our road to success; humility brings gratitude, which in turn improves respect for others and a sense of self-worth.

The idea of playing our part in the community is embedded in our culture; our school family reaches further than the school gates, extending into the wider community we serve. We are part of something bigger and not alone.

High Expectations

Pupils rely on teachers and staff at Alton Close to create an environment where they can aspire to academic excellence through establishing clear boundaries, teaching, practicing and embedding systems and routines which allow them to thrive.

Pupils feel happy and safe where boundaries are predictable, and expectations are consistent and clear. This does not happen by chance, and can only be achieved through meticulous attention to detail, building a strong disciplined environment.
