Key Stage 1 & 2 Curriculum

Swindon Academy Primary provides a well-balanced, challenging and stimulating education that will benefit all and allow children to be the best they can be through the highest standards of teaching and learning.

We follow Government statutory guidance and have used research to develop a curriculum which is informative, educational and challenging. Our aim is to engage and inspire every child. Educational visits and visitors to school enable us to provide real opportunities to reinforce learning, widen horizons, develop new knowledge and skills and engage in new experiences.

Our curriculum is organised into blocks of years called ‘key stages’ (KS). At the end of each key stage, your child’s teacher will formally assess their performance to measure your child’s progress.

Learning opportunities are developed through:

  • Play which is structured at times to enable new skills to develop
  • Allowing children to make their own decisions and choices
  • Providing a range of stimulating resources that children are encouraged to explore freely and through direction from staff
  • Incorporating role-play and talk into sessions
  • Enquiry
  • Offering very high-quality pastoral care so that children feel confident, valued and secure
