What are we learning 

 

1 

Distorted Portraits – Line and mark making 

Year 9 explore the theme of distorted portraits, the first process they look at the technique of line drawing and experiment with creating facial features.  

2 

Distorted Portraits – Line and mark making  

Students create a line pen drawing of a distorted collage portrait, where they create tone using a variety of mark making techniques.  

3 

Distorted Portraits – Surrealism  

Year 9 are introduced to the art movement surrealism and create responses to the artist Merve Ozaslan and Marcelo Monreal using photomontage.  

4 

Distorted Portraits – Surrealism  

Students explore the work of Magritte and have the opportunity to discuss an artist's concepts and themes portrayed in an artwork. They develop their tonal drawings skills through observational drawing.  

5 

Distorted Portraits – Sculpture  

In term 5 students begin to plan and build a clay head which incorporate surreal elements. They build upon their knowledge in drawing facial features to make a realistic clay face. They then paint their sculptures and reflect on the process through a detailed evaluation.
