With an A Level in Fine Art, students could go on to complete a foundation art course or go to university to study art.
The course consists of a personal portfolio unit, with an exam unit. It is assessed internally and verified by the exam board.
During the first year, candidates produce a broad range of practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas including painting, drawing, mixed-media, sculpture, printmaking, photography, sculpture and textiles.
Unit 1 is worth 60% of the final mark and consists of a portfolio of work. Students can choose from a selection of titles to research, explore, develop and produce outcomes. Unit 2 is worth 40% of the qualification. It involves a preparatory period followed by a supervised 10-hour exam period in which to produce outcomes.
Art can be studied in its own right or as part of the Cyber Technologies Pathway.
