This course offers the equivalent of two A Levels over two years. Students explore a range of topics, practitioners and styles through practical and theory lessons. Not only is musicianship explored in the course, but the world of the music business and how to progress into university, music school and the music Industry are integral parts of course.
Through a choice of units, the course offers flexibility and an engaging programme of study. Following this course, students may go on to become a professional musician or work in another performance area of the music industry or another aspect of the music industry. It is equally possible to continue to study music at university or to take a teaching qualification.
This course consists of 12 units over 2 years, 3 of which are mandatory, and all are internally assessed. It is designed to be the substantive part of a 16-18 study programme for learners wanting a strong core of sector study and a focus on the music industry. Units include music arrangement, composition, developing solo and ensemble performance skills, creating music products, investigating the professional practice of the music industry and accessing music software. There are further opportunities to work musically within the local community and other areas of study, which relate to your unique musical skills and choice of instrument and/or voice.
NB: Shorter courses are available. Subsidiary Diploma in Music (equivalent to 1 A Level) and Certificate in Music (equivalent to 1 AS Level). New syllabus to follow – awaiting accreditation.
