A Level Mathematics is very valuable as a supporting subject to many courses at A Level and degree level, especially in the sciences, geography, psychology, sociology and medical courses. A Level Mathematics is a much sought-after qualification for entry to a wide variety of courses in higher education. Building on GCSE mathematics, the course introduces new ideas and serves as a very useful support for many other qualifications as well as being a sought-after qualification for the work place and courses in higher education.
In year 1, students study topics on algebra and functions, quadratics, equations and inequalities, sketching curves, coordinate geometry, exponentials and logarithms, and calculus. As well as a unit on statistics and mechanics.
In year 2, students study three units which cover algebra and functions, trigonometry, sequences and series, differentiation, numerical methods etc. In addition, students continue to study statistics and mechanics.
Acceptance onto this course requires a grade 7+ in maths at GCSE.
